ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS 1. SEALED BIDS for the furnishing of the necessary materials and construction of HENRY L. LANUM, JR. WATER FILTRATION PLANT TECHNOLOGY UPGRADE FOR THE AMHERST COUNTY SERVICE AUTHORITY, VIRGINIA will be received by the Authority at the office of the Director of Public Utilities, 113 Phelps Road, Madison Heights, Virginia 24572 until 2:00 PM, LOCAL TIME TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 2009 and at that time and place will be publicly opened and read aloud. 2. The proposed work consists of: Upgrades to the H.L. Lanum Jr. Water Filtration Plant including a new cast-in place reinforced concrete clearwell, building expansion and furnishings, electrical service upgrades, vertical turbine pumps, top entry mixers, suction manifold type sludge collection equipment, tube settlers, filter bottoms and filter air scour equipment, dry chemical feed equipment, instrumentation and controls. Bidders must have experience completing projects of similar complexity and construction costs, of not less than $2 million dollars, for at least three (3) water or wastewater treatment facilities with capacities of 1.0 MGD or greater within the last ten (10) years. 3. The Bidding Documents, including Drawings and Project Manual with Specifications, are on file for viewing at the office of Hurt and Proffitt, 2524 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, Virginia 24501 and at the office of ARCADIS, One Centerview Drive, Suite 208, Greensboro, North Carolina 27407. A set may be obtained by depositing $300.00, check only, with the Greensboro, NC ARCADIS office. Checks shall be made payable to ARCADIS. Deposits are non-refundable. Additional copies (in excess of one) of the Drawings and Project Manual may be purchased at a cost of $200.00 for Drawings and $100.00 for Project Manual. No refund will be allowed for the return of any additional copies. 4. A list of Bidding Documents (Plan) Holders will be available via the Internet at www.arcadis-us.com. At the top select “Services”. At the top left select “Infrastructure”. Then select “Bid Advertisements” (above “Recent Mergers:”). Scroll to the advertising office, then to the project; select “Plan Holders” view option. 5. Each Bidder must be a Bidding Documents Holder as defined in Article 1 of the Instructions to Bidders. 6. The Amherst County Service Authority, 7. Bidder’s attention is directed to the requirements of Title 54.1, Chapter 11, of the Code of Virginia, pertaining to registration. 8. A mandatory pre-bid conference will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the office of the Director of Public Utilities, 113 Phelps Road, Madison Heights, Virginia 24572. Representatives of OWNER and ENGINEER will be present to discuss the Project. Bidders are required to attend the conference.
